Project Description
Sedamyl commits to an £80 million expansion and is a cornerstone of the Yorkshire agricultural economy, transforming locally grown wheat into starches, sweeteners, proteins and neutral ethyl alcohol for distilleries and major producers in the food, beverage, and green chemistry sectors.
Their recent expansion includes the installation intricate new process systems, erecting critical infrastructure, and scaling the workforce all while keeping existing production lines running without a single day of downtime.
Projects: Bore Hole 12, Project Ouse and Project Haggs

The Challenge
The production of neutral alcohol generates potentially explosive dust and vapour atmospheres, meaning any hot work, heavy lifting, or contractor activity carried inherent, severe fire and explosion risks. Sedamyl had to safeguard a 90-strong permanent workforce alongside over 100 external contractors, manage the hazards of major civil engineering and intricate mechanical installation whilst ensuring the supply chain to Britain's most famous distilleries and producers never suffered.
To help achieve that, Sedamyl wanted a safety partner who specialised in delivering construction projects in high hazard/ high risk environments and one that can apply and implement practical solutions tailored to industrial process hazards and maintaining operational resilience.
The Solution
Yorkshire Health and Safety Ltd is working with Sedamyl's project delivery team, providing a strategic safety management overlay for ongoing construction projects.
