Project Description
In residential new build housing, superstructure blockwork and facing brickwork is where a development takes shape and is also one of the most physically demanding and risk-prone stages of the project.
DRM Brickwork Limited is a highly respected brickwork and blockwork contractor, delivering high quality superstructure packages on residential housing schemes across the Yorkshire.
They are a trusted partner for major housebuilders across the Yorkshire region, working on developments that range from small affordable housing projects through to large scale new build communities.

The Challenge
As DRM Brickwork secured larger contracts, the complexity of managing health and safety across multiple live sites grew exponentially and each site presented unique challenges.
The constant pressure of housebuilding programmes combined with different attitudes, perceptions and cultures of safety embedded across principal contractors and major housebuilders required a tailored safety management system that worked for the company yet could be easily blended into the safety management systems of various major developers and regional housebuilders.
A one size fits all approach was not the answer.
The Solution
Yorkshire Health and Safety Ltd worked closely with DRM Brickwork’s management and site teams to develop a tailored safety management system specifically for residential brickwork and blockwork operations.
Our Support Included:
Competency & Supervision Support and a bespoke safety management system tailored to the needs to superstructure and facing brickwork.
A focus on managing work at height, working on scaffolds provided by others, manual handling and musculoskeletal risk reduction and materials storage, site logistics and the movement and placement of materials around sites and work areas developed into one cohesive safety management system.

The Results:
-
Formal identification of the real world risks facing bricklayers, not just settling for industry statistics.
-
Zero Reportable Injuries despite the high risk nature of brickwork superstructure, DRM Brickwork has maintained an excellent safety record across multiple live sites.
